Assam’s Diverse Muslim Community: An Emblem of Harmony and Indigenous Roots

Assam, often referred to as Sankar-Azanor desh (land of Srimanta Sankaradeva, the Vaishnavite saint-philosopher, and Azan Fakir, the Islamic Sufi preacher), is a region known for its long-standing harmony among people of various faiths and ethnicities.

With a population of approximately 3.12 crore, Muslims constitute an integral part of this culturally diverse land, accounting for over 34 percent, making Assam the state with the second highest Muslim population in India, following Jammu and Kashmir.
