Minister commends extraordinary achievement of replacing both hip and knee joints in a single surgery.

Doctors at AIIMS-Bhubaneswar in India have successfully performed a single surgery to replace both hip and knee joints of a 37-year-old woman suffering from rheumatoid arthritis. This procedure allowed the patient to start walking in three days and be discharged within a week, whereas normally, patients undergo separate surgeries and remain bedridden for almost two months.

The Health Minister praised the doctors for providing free treatment to the patient who had been unable to walk due to joint pain. This surgery is reportedly only the second of its kind globally and has opened new possibilities for patients with inflammatory arthritis.
