Naznin Yasmin: From a Remote Village to the Stars

In the heart of Nagaon district, central Assam, Naznin Yasmin, born in a humble village, dared to dream big. Her aspirations took flight as she gazed at airplanes in the sky and witnessed rocket launches on television, fueling her ambition to become a scientist.

Naznin’s ISRO Appointment

Amidst the global upheaval of the 2021 COVID-19 pandemic, joy erupted in Naznin’s remote village. She achieved the remarkable feat of being selected and appointed as a junior scientist by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).

Playing a Role in Chandrayaan-3’s Journey

Based at the Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh, Naznin Yasmin played a pivotal role in the launch and successful landing of Chandrayaan-3. However, six months before the launch, she faced a personal challenge—delivering a baby and navigating the complexities of balancing motherhood with her dedication to ISRO.

From Nuruddin Furkania JB School to ISRO

From Nuruddin Furkania JB School in Juria, Nagaon, she excelled in her Class X and XII examinations. Graduating with a degree in Electronic and Communication Engineering from Nitz Mirza College, Guwahati, in 2013, she furthered her studies with an M.Tech in Electronic Design and Technology from Tezpur University in 2016.

Beyond Academics

While working in private scientific institutions, Naznin’s determination led her to clear the National Eligibility Examination 2018. Additionally, she qualified for the Junior Research Fellowship of the Government of India.

The North East’s Pride

Naznin Yasmin is the sole scientist from the North East appointed to the prestigious Indian Space Research Organization. Her story echoes the wisdom she imparts: “If you have patience and concentration, you can climb the highest peak of success in all fields. No challenge can be an obstacle to achieving success.”

Inspired by Legends

Naznin’s journey is woven with inspiration from India’s missile man, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, and the trailblazing Kalpana Chawla, India’s first female astronaut. Her trajectory from a rural village to ISRO exemplifies resilience, dedication, and the pursuit of dreams against all odds.
