Potbelly: A Journey Through Bihari Culinary Heritage

In the bustling heart of South Delhi’s Shahpur Jat lies a hidden gem that takes diners on a journey through Bihari cuisine’s rich and flavorful world. Potbelly, a fine-dining restaurant, is not just a place to savor exquisite dishes but a testament to the passion and dedication of its founder, Puja Sahu.

A Climb to Culinary Excellence

Every day, Puja Sahu, a dedicated entrepreneur, embarks on a journey of culinary excellence. She climbs four flights of stairs to reach her restaurant, Potbelly, for surprise kitchen inspections. This climb, though daunting, serves a purpose—it keeps her kitchen staff on their toes, ensuring perfect preparation, prompt service, and excellent presentation.

Shahpur Jat: An Enclave of Charm

Shahpur Jat, nestled near the ancient Siri Fort ruins, has transformed into a bohemian enclave. Its narrow alleys are adorned with vivid murals, cozy boutiques, and quirky shops offering embroidered saris, tunics, and elaborately packaged teas. It’s in this charming neighborhood that Potbelly has found its home.

A Journey from Boutique to Cuisine

Puja Sahu’s journey to culinary excellence is a remarkable one. A commerce graduate from Muzaffarpur, she spent a decade running her boutique. Puja’s venture into gastronomy began modestly, with Potbelly in Shahpur Jat being her first outlet.

A Culinary Heritage Unveiled

Potbelly’s menu is a treasure trove of Bihari culinary heritage, with dishes based on Puja’s mother’s recipes. The menu proudly proclaims, “Potbelly is a labor of love created with a clear vision – bring all the magic that was created in our ancestral kitchen in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, to you on a plate.” It promises to deliver authentic Bihari flavours, breaking stereotypes about Bihar’s cuisine and offering a unique and heartfelt culinary adventure.

Must-Try Dishes

Maithili Thaali, Dhamaka Maggi, Tarkari Thali, Madhubani Thali, Tomato Chokha, Aloo Lalu Chop, and many more are among the must-try dishes. The Poori basket, Bagia basket, and Aloo Lalu chops are popular choices. Non-vegetarian enthusiasts can indulge in the Meat Pakora basket, featuring assorted pakoras made with mutton and chicken.
