Understanding Artificial Intelligence: Insights from Shahnawaz Hussain

Shahnawaz Hussain, a fourth-year B Tech student in Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Kharagpur, shares his thoughts on artificial intelligence (AI). He explains that AI is a technology that mimics how the human brain works. It helps simplify complex tasks, saving time, money, and effort. However, like any technology, AI has both good and bad effects. Shahnawaz believes that everyone will need to adopt AI in the future, or they risk being left behind.

How Does AI Work?

According to Shahnawaz, AI relies heavily on data. The quality of the data fed into AI systems determines how well they perform. Today, computers are becoming as intelligent as humans. We provide them with various types of data, including human behaviour and language. This allows AI to understand how humans work and what they need. For example, if someone needs to write an article on a topic they know little about, AI can help them create a good piece quickly. AI can also recognize faces, which is useful for taking attendance in schools and workplaces.

The Impact of AI on Jobs and Society

Shahnawaz points out that AI will significantly impact society and the job market. For instance, coding, which used to be the job of software engineers, can now be done by AI. This means that engineering jobs may change due to AI. However, he emphasises that AI should be used wisely. It can save time, but it cannot replace the human brain entirely. While some jobs may be affected, AI will also create new opportunities. Currently, there is a growing demand for AI experts, data analysts, and robotics engineers. Shahnawaz believes that AI is evolving rapidly, and its integration into various fields of life is already underway.
