Owais Manzoor: Pioneering the Skies from Kashmir

Owais Manzoor, a 21-year-old from Hangishart village in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district, has made history as the first commercial pilot from his area. His journey began in childhood, fueled by a fascination with aviation and the mechanics of flight. After completing his schooling in Kashmir, Owais pursued his dream by joining the aviation sector. He successfully cleared the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) exams and completed 200 hours of flying at Redbird Flight Training Academy in Karnataka. His hard work culminated in securing a position with Air India, marking a significant milestone in his career.

Family Support and Challenges

Throughout his journey, Owais credits his parents as his backbone, providing unwavering support during his aviation training. The path to becoming a pilot was not without its challenges; it required immense patience and resilience. Owais emphasizes that the aviation field tests one’s determination and commitment, shaping not only skills but also character. His experience reflects the dedication needed to overcome obstacles and achieve one’s aspirations.

A Message for the Future

Transitioning from a remote village to a prestigious airline like Air India is a remarkable achievement. Owais acknowledges the weight of responsibility that comes with flying commercial aircraft, particularly the safety of passengers. He believes that confidence and experience are key to mastering this responsibility. In sharing his journey, Owais offers an inspiring message to the younger generations of Kashmir: “Stay patient, set a goal, and work on it. We can achieve anything if we set our minds to it and not let other things overpower us.” His story serves as a beacon of hope and motivation for aspiring pilots and youth in the region, demonstrating that dreams can indeed take flight.
