Inauguration of Abu Dhabi’s First Hindu Temple

After meticulous craftsmanship spanning over four years, skilled artisans from Rajasthan are poised to reveal the inaugural First Hindu temple in Abu Dhabi.

Cultural Harmony Amidst Challenges

Initiated in 2019 amidst the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic, artisans from the villages of Makrana in Udaipur district embarked on a creative journey to manifest the grand vision of a temple adorned with sculptures of Hindu deities.

Artisan’s Perspective

Ram Kishan Singh, a third-generation sculptor from Makrana, shares his enthusiasm for contributing to the construction of the Hindu temple in Abu Dhabi, emphasizing the message of brotherhood and communal harmony.

Exquisite Architecture

The temple, constructed by the BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha, showcases exquisite marble carvings crafted from over 25,000 stone pieces by skilled artisans from Rajasthan and Gujarat.

Symbolism and Inspiration

Incorporating elements from Hindu scriptures, the architectural marvel features domes, spires, and pillars adorned with intricate carvings depicting stories from respected texts like the Ramayana, Shiv Puran, Bhagavat Katha, and Mahabharata.

Dome of Harmony

The Dome of Harmony symbolizes the synergy of five natural elements, while sculptures depicting grit, commitment, and resilience adorn the temple, drawing inspiration from the landscape of the UAE.

Durability and Magnificence

Withstanding extreme temperatures, the selection of stones showcases practical considerations for the UAE’s climate. Italian marble ensures durability and magnificence, highlighting the significance of craftsmanship for generations to come.

Honorable Recognition

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming address to the Indian community at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium on February 13th, followed by his participation in the dedication ceremony at the BAPS temple the next day, signifies a momentous occasion for the Indian diaspora.

Blend of Tradition and Modernity

Over 40,000 cubic feet of marble have been utilized in the interior construction, blending traditional aesthetics with modern functionality, incorporating nano tiles and heavy-duty glass panels.

Collaborative Endeavors

Vishal Brahmbhatt, overseeing procurement and logistics, emphasizes the collaborative effort involved in sourcing over two lakh cubic feet of sacred stones for the temple’s construction amidst global challenges posed by the pandemic and conflicts.
