Kashmiri Cricketer Rubia Syed Set to Shine in Women’s IPL with Gujarat Giants

In a remarkable turn of events, Rubia Syed, a talented 29-year-old woman cricketer from South Kashmir, is gearing up to make her mark in the upcoming season of the Women’s Indian Premier League (IPL) as a vital member of the Gujarat Giants.

Hailing from the quaint village of Badasgam in Anantnag district, Rubia’s journey to the IPL is a testament to her unwavering dedication and the support of her family.

Rubia Syed, known for her exceptional skills in right-handed batting and right-arm medium-paced bowling, is an outstanding all-rounder. Her cricketing journey began in 2012, and for the past decade, she has been representing the Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA). Her impressive skills also led her to participate in prestigious tournaments like the Ranji Trophy and Senior Women’s T-20.

Rubia attributes her achievements to her unwavering support system, particularly her father, Ghulam Qadir Sheikh, a fruit merchant, who stood by her side throughout her cricketing journey. Her father ensured that her dreams were never compromised despite financial constraints at home. Rubia’s family and fans are excited, eagerly anticipating her debut with the Gujarat Giants.

Notably, Rubia Syed’s success extends beyond personal triumphs. She is the first woman from Jammu & Kashmir to secure a spot in the North Zone team for women’s cricket. Her coach, Sakeena Akhter, the first qualified woman coach at the University of Kashmir, significantly shaped her journey to excellence. Sakeena’s mentorship nurtured Rubia’s talent and passion for cricket.

As Rubia Syed prepares to don the jersey of the Gujarat Giants, she not only carries her dreams but also the aspirations of a region that is fast becoming a powerhouse in women’s cricket, thanks to the dedication of individuals like herself and the unwavering support of her family and mentors. Her journey inspires young aspiring cricketers and underscores the transformative power of pursuing one’s passion against all odds.
