Khurshid Alam: A Lawyer Dedicated to Justice and Service to Society

Khurshid Alam, an esteemed Additional Advocate General of Bihar, has carved a remarkable path in the legal fraternity. His notable achievements include successfully defending the State against the formidable Chief Election Commissioner of India, T.N. Seshan, during a time when Seshan’s presence struck fear in the hearts of election officials. Alam’s legal prowess also secured victories in high-profile cases, such as securing the release of Katihar Medical College’s Director, Ahmed Ashfaq Karim, from jail, and winning the murder case involving the Patna Mayor as an accused.

A Champion for the Underprivileged

Khurshid Alam’s commitment to justice extends beyond courtroom battles. He actively organizes legal awareness campaigns and provides legal aid to the poor and underprivileged sections of society. His dedication to serving the community is further exemplified by his accomplishment of being the only Muslim lawyer to be elected as the Vice President of the Patna Advocate Association twice, a testament to his reputation and respect among his peers.

A Legacy Rooted in Scholarship and Service

Born in 1956 in Kagji Mohalla, Biharsharif, Khurshid Alam hails from a family of landlords and scholars. His ancestors played a significant role in the fields of science, literature, and politics, with his grandfather Noor Mohammad publishing the Urdu newspaper “Ittihad” during British rule. Alam’s grandfather, Sheikh Ahmed Ali, authored the renowned book “Qaumi Masnavi” in 1912, which the family recently republished after retrieving it from the Lucknow Library.

Khurshid Alam’s mother, hailing from West Bengal, was the niece of the celebrated Bengal poet, Qazi Nazar Islam. This rich legacy of scholarship and service has undoubtedly shaped Alam’s unwavering commitment to justice and his tireless efforts in uplifting the lives of those in need through legal aid and awareness campaigns.
