A famous character in Chittorgarh district, Rajasthan, Haji Sher Khan, began a visionary quest 12 years ago. What was his Dream? To create a Making the world’s largest handwritten holy Quran, Islam’s sacred text. This desire brought him to Maulana Jameel Ahmad Tonky, a world-class calligrapher.

Art and Devotion in the Magnificent Manuscript

Weighing an amazing 260 kg, spanning nearly 10.5 feet in breadth and 7.6 feet in length, this magnificent Quran is a tribute to human creativity. Its sheer size needs the engagement of 20 to 25 humans for handling, with the turning of its pages needing a coordinated effort by two people. One must scale a ladder to reach its hallowed passages—an image of devotion and commitment.

Maulana Jameel Ahmad, the architect behind this extraordinary accomplishment, firmly maintains its title as the world’s biggest and heaviest handwritten Holy Quran. He stresses that its design results from arduous physical work, rejecting computer-generated perfection in favor of a real, handcrafted approach. Crafted on finely produced paper from Jaipur and Sanganer, this Quran reflects a labor of love and commitment.

Unveiling Majesty: Sharing a Precious Treasure

The ceremonial display of this enormous text happened at Jaipur’s Rabindra Manch, a venerable cultural institution commemorating its diamond jubilee. Visitors from near and far rushed to watch this unique event, emphasising its deep importance and broad adoration.

Permanently placed at the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Arabic Persian Research Institute (APRI) in Tonk, this valuable Quran serves as a light of cultural legacy and Its precise quality, incorporating the Khat-e Sulz or Nashk Arabic script, corresponds with the cherished traditions of Makkah, further emphasizing its reverence and authenticity.
