Following a Bachelor’s in Physical Education from Government Degree College Ganderbal, he completed his Masters under an exceptional sports quota at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. In 2016 and 2017, Akbar represented Guru Nanak Dev University in the All India Inter-University Cycling Championship, winning two additional gold medals and bringing glory to his university and his native state. Apart from medals and prizes, Akbar has sponsored bikes and received assistance from local authorities and institutions. The cycle provided by Omar Abdullah and sponsorships from J&K Bank have played a vital part in his career. Today, Akbar is not only a successful cyclist but also a mentor. He is involved with Khelo India and teaches 30-40 young cyclists daily, giving them crucial strategies and abilities. Numerous teenagers have begun earning medals under his coaching, such as the recent silver in the under-14 category. He is enthusiastic about developing a solid foundation for cycling in his area, hoping that more youngsters would take up the sport and bring honour to their state and nation.

However, he stays hopeful and encourages his pupils to establish reasonable objectives and work diligently towards them.
