Spiritual Journey at Maha Kumbh Mela

The Maha Kumbh Mela, which is deemed to be the largest spiritual event in the world, gets under way with the ‘Shahi Snan’ on the Paush Purnima and people from India and other countries are reaching out to the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh. This sacred site, where the rivers Ganga, Yamuna, and the mystical Saraswati meet, becomes a focal point for thousands seeking spiritual renewal during the Maha Kumbh Mela.

Devotees Brave the Cold

Still some of the foreigners did not hesitate even to bathe in the cold water during the winter season in the holy confluence. This specialty was indirectly expressed by Francisco, a Brazilian first-time visitor in India: ‘I am happy to be part of this ceremony.’ It was really good to be here, everyone was great to me.” The water is cold but I have a warm heart,” he said, telling everyone that he desires Moksha. He mentioned, “India is the spiritual heart of the world,” and added, “I feel lucky to be here with friends from Spain, Brazil, and Portugal on this spiritual journey.”

Another Mysorean who came to Mela was Jitesh Prabhakar, a German based engineer currently staying in Germany with his wife Saskia, and a baby boy Aditya. He described the need of keeping up religious practice, regardless of the stay either in India or in other countries. “I do yoga every day and only move inwards, towards the self,” he added.

A Global Celebration of Faith

People who are visiting those places are sharing their stories. A trip through New York City from Cape Town – South Africa said “The streets are clean, people are friendly and happy” regarding the event. The energy field was blessed by the waters of the great Ganga River, which one more devotee from South Africa, Nikki, mentioned.

A safety measure is observed since the venue is accompanied by security teams which are Rapid Action Force Police and the Central Reserve Police Force. The Maha Kumbh Mela this year holds special significance, coinciding with a rare celestial alignment that happens only once every 144 years.
