AYUSH System Gains Global Attention at International Conference

AYUSH system of medicine, which includes Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy, is becoming more popular not just in India but also around the world. Dr. N Zaheer Ahmad, the Director of the Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM), shared this insight at the International Conference on “AYUSH for Good Life: Integrating Indian and Modern System of Medicine.” This event took place at the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) in Awantipora, South Kashmir.

The three-day conference attracted experts and medical professionals from various countries. They discussed how to combine traditional AYUSH practices with modern healthcare methods. Dr. Ahmad mentioned that the AYUSH Centre at IUST has already helped over 3,000 people.

Using Technology to Promote AYUSH

Shakil A. Romshoo, the Vice Chancellor of IUST, emphasised the need to make AYUSH more accessible through modern technology. He suggested forming a group of medical professionals from different fields to work together on this goal. The conference featured over 100 research papers and was attended by more than 350 delegates, showing the growing interest in AYUSH.

Practical Benefits and Community Engagement

Prof. A. H. Moon, Dean of Academics at IUST, reaffirmed the university’s commitment to connecting traditional and modern medicine. He stated that by merging the strengths of both systems, they aim to improve health standards in the region. Hakim Mousin Dehlvi, General Secretary of the Unani Drug Manufacturers Association (UDMA), stressed the need to promote AYUSH for better health. He noted that conferences like this are essential for raising awareness about AYUSH’s potential to solve modern health problems.

The conference also included a health mela, offering free medical consultations and services to the public, highlighting the benefits of AYUSH in community health. Additionally, participants visited the High-Altitude Daksum Herbal Garden to learn about high-altitude medicinal plants and their uses. Dr. Arsheed A. Ganaie, Coordinator of the Centre for AYUSH, explained that the tour aimed to introduce participants to the cultivation and therapeutic applications of these plants.
