Citizens for Fraternity Praise RSS Chief’s Call for Unity

Most of the signers are highly respected Muslims who include Najeeb Jung, S.Y. Qureshi, Lt. Gen. (Retd) Zameer Uddin Shah, among others, who penned an open letter to Mohan Bhagwat, the chief of RSS about Call for Unity. They applauded his recent statement on the issue bringing to an end the Mandir-Masjid controversy. They stated, “Your opinions filled our happiness; these views do not only benefit Indian Muslims but everyone who wants good wishes.” They underlined the ability of Bhagwat’s words to decrease the tension between the two communities and reunite the society.

Anxiety on ‘separationists’ utterances

Long term residents of Ranchi members of citizens for fraternity including the authors of the letter worried about several statements and actions against Indian Muslims of late. These they refer to as negative occurrences that are destructive on the fabric of the nation and stated that they give rise to grave communal conflict. The members said, “Your statement will help enlighten those who undermine the principles of our country.” They said they hoped that the message by Bhagwat can prevent spew of hatred and bring back people to embrace living in harmony.

A Call for Unity and Brotherhood

The letter underlined the need of making each and every Indian a conscious agent of purifying the Ganga-Jamuni Tehzeeb or the shared culture and make the country stand in defense of secularism. The members encouraged Bhagwat to start concrete measures towards translating what he said into action for the sake of unity and brotherhood in society. This letter is most viewed as one of the foundational significant activities for enhancing the relations between the Muslim community and other people of India. The action of the Citizens for Fraternity is considered as positive trying to promote fraternity and peace in the society of the country.

Therefore, having created the open letter, the members of Citizens for Fraternity call listeners to establish communication and find a common language in overcoming divisions. It has a need to involve everyone towards the construction of a society that is better and kinder and healthier, more in sync with India in spirit.
